For Cynic's of Love

Quote from Moonstruck Ronny to Loretta, I love you. Not like they told you love is, and I didn't know this either, but love don't make things nice - it ruins everything. It breaks your heart. It makes things a mess. We aren't here to make things perfect. The snowflakes are perfect. The stars are perfect. Not us. Not us! We are here to ruin ourselves and to break our hearts and love the wrong people and *die*.

The Story that lies in our blood....

The Story that lies in our blood....

Watching a fascinating program on history channel about one of the 20th centuries great mysteries the Last Romanov surviving during the weekend really got me thinking. The program featured how Dna markers in the bones of Tsar Nicholas and Tsarina Alexandre was used to determine whether the so-called survivor Anna Anderson was truly the Princess Anastacia Romanov.Sadly the answer was no....

So this got me thinking about my own Dna markers the proud scottish blood I inherited from my mom mother....flowing in my veins...How as I get older I hear my mother speak when I open my mouth ...The sensitivity she had for others feelings and pain also flow in my soul...Sadly my gran died the day my mom hear she is expecting me so she remains this mystery from the past...My mother as I was growing up would remarked how my headstrong single-mindedness was so like her mom...I know so little of who she was and as I get older i grow more inquisitive about this fascinating lady in the faded photo in my dining room....However I do in times of strain and stress feel her blood and dna bubble in my veins and I soldier on head to the wind like im told she did....

P.J Oosthuizen (Kobus) 19 June 1928-9 June 2000
Businessman,Sportman,Rotarian,Round Tabler,Freemason,Go-getter...
My Dad and my Hero
Today my dad would have been 81 years of age. As I sit here and enjoy the beautiful memories he left behind i smile with happiness and pride having been fortunate to call him my dad...A farmboy from Kleinjongensfontein came from very poor but proud Afrikaner stock. 3rd oldest of 11 kids bright as a penny from day one.He always excelled at everything he put his mind too..Rugby, Fishing & Literature. At school he was a brilliant scholar and was awarded a Bursary to study in England which he sadly had to decline because my Grandfather did not trust the English. My mother was the love of his life to his dying day he would confess her to be the most beautiful women he ever laid his eyes on. My dad was a service above self guy always actively taking the lead in community affairs serving in Rotary,Round Table and as Freemasons. I arrived late in my parents marriage and was the apple of his eye...Time spent with him was always precious as a busy Businessman they were sadly few growing up.... But his love was shown in giving our family the best he could afford.... He lived a full life full of adventure travelling the world and Africa.... Toured right around the Globe from the Americas to Asia... Fishing all over the globe from Marlin in Florida to Tigerfish in the Okavango.... He was a tough dad encouraging me to be tough stand my ground and debate issues... Teaching me about life one book at a time through writers like Eugene Marais and giving me my first Andre P Brink at 15...so i can learn to think independant and liberally about the politics of the day... His favourite thing was to provoke a debate just by taking an opposite viewpoint from mine...He played gholf and chess with me and cared about the person I would one day become. Instilling the fact that one must add value to life... My dad showed me how to succeed against all odds even when times were tough... When diagnosed with lung cancer we as a family battled it together not allowing him to give up... Sadly in his later years pessimism would get hold of him from time to time as it does when we get older... But his sweetness and hospitality was just beautiful and sincere. We he would always make sure that when I arrived home their was biltong droewors and something nice to eat.... Today I celebrate my hero who have made me the tough cookie I am today and sunday I celebrate be dad who was the best father one can hope for .... I do truly miss youre presence in my life but your wisdom and memories travels with me wherever i go.

Rain Late in Autumm

Driving home from a meeting last week I drove through rain and thunder with the feeling of a typical Summer storm yet it was Late Autumn... A very Inconvenient Truth .....Global warming is alterating weather patterns around the globe....And not just a few Polar bears on a Ice Cap is affected..Are we thinking about our Carbon footprint? Are we doing those little things making a big difference, switching of lights, changing the bulbs from 100w to 11 w,removing our cellphone charger when we not charging our phones...walking instead of driving,Recycling smoking less and planting more trees.

excuses, motivation & empowerment

excuses, motivation & empowerment:
"What are your excuses for not doing what you really want?
Are you too young? Or too old?
Are you married? Or not married?
Are you broke? Or is your life too comfy?
In one form or another, excuses are about avoiding risk.
Instead of doing, you go through the motions. You “make plans”. You “get organized”. You work on being ready for when the opportunity arises… But you don’t actually do what it takes to make the opportunity arise!
Now, it’s not strange to be afraid of risk. Popular wisdom says it eloquently: “Better safe than sorry”.
But have you ever taken a moment to ask yourself what you’re actually afraid of? What the risks actually are?
Listen to the inner chatter of your mind, as if it were an actual voice talking out loud:
Are you too stupid to succeed? Or too smart for your own good?
Are you too busy these days? Or too lacking in momentum?
Excuses “feel” right, so you don’t take the time to really examine them. But, when you pay attention, when you let yourself articulate what goes on in the twilight of your mind, you find that excuses are like vampires: they wither and die in the light of the day.
What’s left, underneath, is fear.
There’s nothing strange about being afraid of doing something new and different. In fact, fear need not be your enemy, it can be your ally: When you realize you’re afraid, and when you articulate your fears, you’re in a better position to do something concrete about your situation.
So let yourself dream:"

There is one more angel in heaven....

Today 6 years ago I lost my best friend since childhood.... Fitting to Hein's personality he left us on Human Rights day. Strangely in the same hospital ward in Kimberley that he was born...Like an old elephant bull returning home after his last journey... Hein was never a person you would just like you would either absolutely adore him or hate his guts...He was always true to his core if he smiled his whole being smiled....But heaven help us if it was his drama queen day he would pout and smirk with the same guesto....
Not a day has passed that memories of him flow through me...It would be the fall of a leaf ,the smell of incense, the sound in a song, the lines in someones face,or a little gecko running for the sun...He filled his 38 years with so much beauty and joy to those who loved him...I carry him inside me and is so much richer to have had him in my life....
Very few of us is fortunate to have a friend who has been around their whole life...Hein and myself were inseparable since childhood...I would play with his Corgi metal cars and he adored my Barbies....Usually at the end of the day when one of us had to go home it ended in a huge screaming match between us and our parents..And many promises that we can play again the next day.
We just loved one another so purely beautifully,we would kiss and hug and hold each other as little kids and heaven help the one who tried to separate us..I would recite poetry and he would draw. In school we always shared a bench usually for the first day of the school year till the teacher discover our love for debates with one another... He would teach me how to draw faces and i would help him get history and geography facts in his head....
In High school we drifted as he was part of the in-crowd while I did the culture stuff like choir and Media centre prefect... But we would still dice each other home in the afternoon after school on our motorcycles...Occassionally we would debate History in class and he would try and outdo me..Yet we attended the same church and furiously debated religious issues with our Minsiter in conformation class and when on to teach Sunday school together. In our own way we still shared a deep connection in a akward teenage way.
After school we reconnected through a mutual friend and again were inseparable... When we were together it was as time stood still for us and we were in our own special place where everything was possible and we could solve the world's problems over a Wellington & Coke or the kickass Harvey Wallbangers that would completely paralyse you...The one thing about Hein was where he was there was always laughter....

As I sit here the pranks and fun and happy times we played play through my mind like a movie on a slow forward,

  • Pancakes baked with Wellington Brandy as the most important ingredient,
  • him driving his father's monster F100 lefthand truck Elton's "Im still standing" blaring full force.
  • Cocktail nights at the Int where we had to help one another across the main road.
  • Sitting on Sunday mornings drinking Herbal tea listening to Radio Lotus till we both got a craving for his Tandoori chicken and incense.
  • Us painting making mobiles always making stuff and drinking pots of tea except an saturday afternoons when we really got creative hehehe....
  • My Friday dinner parties in the courtyard @ Cara's house with him arriving nonchalant with an Italian adonis who should not speak a word giving away his lack of intelligence.
  • Walks on the beach of Keimouth and Gonubie....
  • Discussion on the merits of Geroniomus Bosch and Salvidor Dali..
  • Hein could hang a picture of the Voortrekker museum next to a Tretchichoff

I miss him everyday more and more...I celebrate you today
